‘Mr. Teletext’, it’s an often misused title, or should I say abused? When someone’s birds need to be praised highly for sales sake, the ‘Mr. Teletext’-word is mostly used, even if it’s a once in a lifetime experience for such a fancier, or a bunch of times on the SBS6-pages of the Dutch Racing Pigeon Organization (NPO). Even worse, sometimes even the local pages on the telly are upgraded to give the ‘champions’ some standing.

Our subject of today, Dick van Oort, is a real ‘Mr. Teletext’, alone in 2010 his name was eleven times on the goggle box. He also won 5 national races in the last ten years! Now that is worthwhile! Considering the fact that he has a fulltime job in which he spends most of his time, his successes get even more brilliance. Still the big audience isn’t aware of his impressive results. The clever fanciers from his province know him all too well, some others in Holland too. But step inside a pigeon club in Belgium or Germany and ask if anyone knows Dick van Oort, there’s an earsplitting silence. It’s not their fault either, you cannot find Dick on the internet and he’s not advertising to sell his birds.
Dick’s birds earned a spotlight when considering their results, so that’s the main reason for us to offer some of his amazing birds on Dreampigeons. And of course we also make a little profit from them, which in fact we’d rather do by selling some top-class youngsters or breeders instead of promoting someone’s poulterer’s basket! Let’s be frank: what is the perspective of buying birds with classy pedigrees when you know that their former owner didn’t weed it out because perhaps some fool would want to spend a dime on buying it online to bring back his deposit? Our aim is to offer birds which will really improve your loft instead of the fashion status of your birds. On our hunt for the best of Holland, we hit Dick van Oort’s name on every corner. He’s not just the next best thing; he has good birds with great physical appearance also.

He became 50-years old recently, Dick van Oort, and his track record in pigeon sport is impressive. He steadily built a superb colony of birds, which really started shining about eight years ago when he won his first national (NPO) race with the NL03-1374249; it was Pont St. Maxcence against 17,744 birds. After that the number of victories is growing. A year after that the NL01-2151563 won the first NPO Bourges against 9,045 birds and was crowned ‘Miss Victoria”. Again one year later, it was 2005, a new jewel was revealed, namely ‘Rian’ (NL03-1374314) winning first NPO Tours against 6,238 birds. Every single year after that for a decennium now, Dick is either champion or among the top lofts. It’s not his major goal, but a result of his constantly high performance. Although he doesn’t hesitate to keep his birds at home when the weather forecast is bad!
He races 42 couples of racers, which are on the total-widowhood system. For his own use he breeds about a 100 youngsters of which on average 80 or so are basketed for the first race.

James Bond

Most of his Teletextbirds are closely related to his golden acecock, ‘James Bond’ or NL92-1573390. This bird already has an amazing progeny. Dick owns five National (NPO) winners and three of them are from his bloodline. NL10-1882238 won 1st NPO Reims (7,368 birds) and was bred from a granddaughter, NL10-1882209 won 1st NPO Ablis (6,817 birds) and originates from a grandson mated with a great-grandchild. NL05-1374314 ‘Rian’, won 1st NPO Tours (6,238 birds) and is a granddaughter. Out of the eleven Teletextbirds in 2010, eight had James Bond as an ancestor!
It’s not only in Zaltbommel where James Bonds golden bloodline is blazing, also on other lofts national winners appear. NL04-2144437 ‘Kira’ (bred from a son of ‘James Bond’) owned by Bernard van Oerle won 1st NPO Bourges (6,048 birds) and NL09-1876241 (from grandson) of Combination Vierhout from Nunspeet won 1st NPO Peronne 13,700 birds.
The purpose of this introduction is to show the quality of Dick’s birds, so a full reference is too much. Two more hotshots are presented here: Hans Dekkers (Hedikhuizen) did some share breeding with Dick some years ago and both harvested their share. A daughter of ‘James Bond’ became the grandmother of Hans Dekkers NL08-1717343; she won three times Teletext on his loft and would have represented the Netherlands on the latest Olympiad, if the birds would have been insured better. Morally, she’s an Olympic bird of course. Also some other birds from Dick’s bloodlines were successful. NL01-2151563 ‘Miss Victoria’ was mated to ‘Champion 1’ NL01-5154586 of Hans Dekkers. They gave NL08-1717442 and NL08-1717441. ‘441’ stayed at the loft of Hans Dekkers and bred the 1st National Blois 3,800 birds. Nest mate ‘442’ came to Zaltbommel and brought Dick the 1st NPO Reims against 7,386 birds! A son of ‘James Bond’ moved to Jan Blom and was forefather to over 25 different first prize winners!

Golden couple

‘James Bond’ was a firm bases, nowadays a new Golden Couple have emerged showing of their immense hereditary traits. The dam is still a descendant of the old cock. This couple consist of NL07-2026649 ‘Doffer Superkoppel’ x NL07-2026860 ‘Duivin Superkoppel’. The dam was a fantastic flyer winning (a.o.) 4th Strombeek 4,358 birds, 5th Nanteuil 3,249 birds, 23rd Mantes la Jolie 14,945 birds, 13th Vervins 4,798 birds and 36th Blois 7,415 birds.

Four different children and one grandchild were on Teletext six times:

  • NL10-1882309 won 3rd NPO Reims against 7,386 birds (2010)
  • NL10-1882310 won 3rd NPO Nanteuil Le Haudouin against 10,703 birds and 9th NPO Ablis against 7,817 birds (2010)

  • NL10-1882230 won 5th NPO Ablis against 12,356 birds (2008)

The NL09-1393464 was also bred from this couple; she is mother to NL317 which won 7th NPO Nanteuil Le Haudouin against 10,703 birds in 2010

We offer youngsters from Dick van Oort on DreamPigeons, not only from his best flyers, but also a youngster of the Golden Couple. The auction starts the 15th of November. A real top offer is NL09-1393416 ‘son Sanne’. This young gun won 6th NPO Sens against 2,296 birds as a youngster, but ended his promising career after he returned wounded on his first yearling race.
