Best cock ánd best hen WHZB 2011 owned by Father and Son Verbree, Putten!

The prestigious Dutch competition ‘Wie heeft ze Beter’ had a stunning apotheosis! The exact translation of WHZB is “Anyone got’em better?” and especially in 2011 this slogan was very true for Co and Piet Verbree.  According to the WHZM-competition, they owned the king and queen of Dutch pigeonracing, meaning both the Acecock and Acehen, miraculous! It’s a unique achievement in the prestigious history of this national competition.

The 2011-season was again amazing for the partnership Verbree of Putten. They knew that their best cock and hen would achieve a good ranking, but when the computer had finished calculating the WHZB-results, they were nevertheless suprised:

  • 1st National acebird hens
  • 1st National acebird cocks
  • 1st and 5th acebirds all-in one (8 birds in the first 200, with over 200.000 competitors)
  • 19th National acebird youngsters
  • 8th National Best fancier

In one word: Unique!

Kick in open doors

Is there anyone who hasn’t heard of Piet and Co? They are a phenomenon in Holland and also worldwide. They founded their loft on pigeons they got from the foundingfathers of Dutch dayracing: the de Wit brothers of Koudekerk aan den Rijn. Directly from their thouroughbred strain, mainly based on the Janssens-Arendonk. The brothers got them from fanciers such as Jos de Klak, Nic Janssen and Dr. Linssen.

Is it a coincidence that the lofts of those other legendary fanciers such as Bas and Gerard Verkerk and Willem de Bruijn were also based on the birds of the same de Wit brothers? Co was an early adopter of this strain, for he came to Koudekerk a/d Rijn a little earlier than their total sale in 1990, it was 1956 when he first stepped into their loft. Mostly he went home with some youngsters, but sometimes he was accompanied by a proven breeder on his way home too. The loft of Verbree was further founded on birds by Mees Doornekamp of Amersfoort and legendary Louis van Loon of Poppel.  Especially the NL93-2334466 ‘Ultra Doffer’ (bred by Berghuizen and son from two Mees Doornekamp-birds) was a good shot. Amongst his children there are already two Olympiadpigeons!

The beforementioned birds formed a base solid as a rock and the Verbrees further expanded their strain with pigeons from C. & G. Koopman, G. & S. Verkerk, Ad Schaerlaeckens, Steven van Breemen, Jan van de Pasch, Hans Dekkers and Jan Ouwerkerk.

The favorite game of father and son Verbree are the races until 700 kilometer with a special focus on the middle long –and long distance. Their stock consists of 24 breeding –and 34 flyingcouples. They live in the far end of their province (with over 60 km of extra-flight distance every race) but win an extreme number of races, topranking and on average over 60% prizecards of all basketed birds.

Again a flashing season

There simply doesn’t seem to be a maximum for their results, the year 2011 was again fabulous for father Co and son Piet. They made a huge score of 11 first prizes against more than 1.851 birds on average. The racingsheets were dazzling, competition was simply shattered:
